Seattle To Shut Down Northlake Tiny House Village Earlier Than Planned

One of Seattle’s tiny house communities is being shut down.

The Northlake tiny house village was initially set to shut down at the end of the year, but that has now been pushed up 3 weeks. Residents have until December 9 to vacate.

In October, the city of Seattle cut funding to the village following a stand-off between Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) staff, and residents of the village. The residents blocked LIHI staff from entering.

LIHI’s executive director, Sharon Lee, said that the closure was moved up to meet city requirements, but added that residents will get help to relocate.

She revealed that six residents have already accepted alternative housing offers.

This week, Tacoma city council members were set to vote on a $388,000 plan to help the homeless get decent housing.

The city will team up with LIHI to open a 22-unit tiny house village. If the plan goes through, the village will be built on a vacant lot along Martin Luther King Junior Way.
