Students from Norwich University in Vermont have received a boost in their plans to design and build a tiny house village in Middlebury.The school announced this week that it had received $20,000 from TD Bank to develop a construction management plan for the homes.“We are proud to support Norwich’s Design + Build housing initiative as it provides an opportunity to advance TD’s social purpose to build sustainable, inclusive communities and make a lasting positive impact,” TD Bank Market President Phil Daniels said.
It is part of a collaboration between the college and Homes First – a volunteer group based in the town.
The group’s mission is to help find secure housing for all members of their community. They are in the process of raising $90,000 for the first three homes.Homes First is also a piece of land to purchase, ideally over 3 acres.This is not Norwich University’s first attempt at building tiny houses.The school has designed and built two tiny houses that are currently sitting on Brook Street in Barre.
In 2017, the school even won a People’s Choice award from the Vermont chapter of the American Institute of Architects for a tiny house they had built.
